Ok, maybe Apocalypse is a bit overstated, a bit hyperbolic, but have you met me? Hyperbole and grotesquely specific descriptions are my bread and butter. I was, in fact, today to stop calling the quesadillas my partner makes “limp and flaccid” because the imagery that it was bringing to mind was particularly unappetizing… just like the quesadillas, imo. Also, the budget bill passed today, and I am feeling hopeless and angry and have been in bed for the majority of the day. I am self soothing with food.
If you have been here for a while, you know that I do a kitchen witch series. You can visit past recipes here on Substack 1, 2, 3, 4. I use food as part of my spiritual practice weekly, even daily on a good week. Sometimes even just being grounded into the ritual of cooking and intentionality during meal prep is enough to bring my energy back into a better space/balance.
This post is more about ingredients rather than entire meals. If you are curious about meals, definitely let me know! Please know that I am omnivorous, gluten free, dairy free, nut free, and shellfish free. Any recipe I do post can have any of these things substituted for what I use, but I have to cook how I cook for my health and safety. We don’t judge food around here (except bell peppers because they’re devil spawn).
As you prepare your food, ground, breathe, tap into the energy that you are needing. I personally repeat the energy I want, and when I’m alone, I sing my silly little songs as I slice my ingredients. It sound silly and feels silly, but once you notice the lack of energy vampires from the garlic, you’ll keep doing it.

I want to say that I love cooking, and I am sure that is true when I’m not in the throes of anxiety and depression. Even when I don’t enjoy cooking, I DO enjoy food. I love having access to food. I love eating. I love having food near and around me. I love thinking about the energy that each food holds. It helps me slow down, be mindful, and with my ADHD it becomes a moving meditation or prayer rather than one that is seated and seen as more disciplined.
Obviously this is not a complete list, but it’s a jumping off point. I added what I thought would be common noshes to what I eat in general. Let me know what you think of this kind of resource. Let me know if you want more or specific foods you have in mind. If you are growing your own food, planting them with intentions is also a beautiful magic. My dad is an organic farmer. He always told me to talk to the plants because they like it. Give your plant babies some little affirmations, avoid cussing them out like my dad does.
Do you have any foods that you feel deeply connected to spiritually or otherwise?
Wishing you well this week! May your life offer what you need in this moment.
With love,
Aventurine ✨

Love this! I don’t love cooking but I do love eating 😆 As I eat on my own most of the time I am going to try and focus on these qualities and what they are doing for my body, I often watch TV or read whilst I’m eating which means that I’m not really appreciating my food.
I’m glad I read this before grocery shopping lol
