The Star as Prioritization
Tarot Chats
When I received my first tarot deck (Golden Universal Tarot), I did what everyone does, and I flipped through the cards. I had no idea what the suits meant. I had no idea what the story of the symbolism within the pictures held. I knew nothing. I knew only that I had my first deck, that my partner had taken my interest seriously, that he didn’t look down on me being interested in this.
As, I flipped through, I kept coming back to The Star. The Star was the card that I fell in love with instantly. I looked it up. I saw my dreams ahead of me, my goals, my potentials. I saw the feminine energy before I even understood what that meant because I was still trying to fit the patriarchal energy of getting ahead and fight fight fight.
My love for this card has continued through the years, but it has dropped in terms of favorite, and I think that’s often because to me the card can feel a lot like broken promises to myself, or almost like stagnation when I’ve been looking at the same dreams I’ve had for 5 or so years. The other day though, when I was pulling my daily cards, I had an epiphany about The Star.
As y’all know by now, I use The Guardians of The Night Tarot daily. It is my favorite. The animal vibes just hit for me, and I think a lot of that is because animals are stronger messengers for me than humanoids. Humanoid art is mundane. Animals are always full of secrets. The Star card in this deck is the deer, as you can see. I associate the deer with many goddesses (it has to be like the most versatile animal, like rosemary in herbs), but especially with Artemis.
When I pulled The Star that day, I realized that The Star isn’t just about your hopes and dreams and the light at the end of The Tower tunnel, but instead, it’s about the reprioritization of your goals, your life, what you want.
The Tower tears us down. It breaks us down, our life down, and it makes us refind our footing and rebuild our foundation. We are no longer living like on the foundations of deep seated traumas and old stories and beliefs. Our tower moment is about releasing and rewriting and being in the thick of it. The Star is that first bit of light, of hope that we see in the midst of this. Here is what I’ve realized though: we can’t get to through The Tower tunnel without taking The Star seriously, without really strategizing and prioritizing our new life, our new outlook, our new goals, hopes, dreams.
The Star is Aquarius. Aquarius is an air sign, and while yes, air signs can be a bit flaky and out there, they are thinkers, planners, and communicators. Lean into that as you plan your new life, as you rebuild your foundation upon positive stories, loving life experiences, and healed outlooks. The Moon will have you looking into the emotions of it all, and once it’s all worked out, you have The Sun. you will finally be out of The Tower, and into the light of day, into the joyous life you have created. While this is a post about The Star, I don’t think that we can have The Star without The Tower. The Tower isn’t a quick card, it is actually present through The Star and The Moon as well. Complete overhaul is not quick, not easy, not for the weak, but it IS obtainable when prioritized.
The Deer, Artemis, helped me realize the prioritization because she is a goddess of definitive action, of knowing her values and codes, of authenticity outside of patriarchy. She is a goddess who spends most of her time alone in the wilderness. I work with her for help with goals and determination, and now, I will add on the prioritization. If you are Autistic or ADHD, you probably struggle with task prioritization. Once we can get that figured out, often our task list moves more quickly, and we are actually able to complete AND initiate tasks.
When we speak of spirituality and action in this space, there is always room for neurotypes and accessibility and the impacts of trauma. Everyone has a different capacity and threshold. Learning about what that looks like for you and how to work with, not against your brain and nervous system can be life changing. Your hopes and dreams are available to you, but the may require accommodation and modification, and that’s ok.

Great article! As an Aquarius Sun I have always loved The Star but very much thought about in terms of hopes and dreams and very much in a flaky and idealistic air sign way. I can see where you are coming from though and will definitely think about that if the Star appears in my readings.
