In 2024, I have made it a priority for me to get my new moon journaling and card pulls done even if I can’t do it on the day of. For instance, this New Moon wasn’t until a Thursday, and I knew that I would be too exhausted to be able to do everything I like to do. Instead, I did it almost a week early and pulled my cards on Saturday, and then I started my in-depth journaling routine on Sunday in order to finish by Thursday.
This new moon card pulling session was both exciting and a bit anxiety inducing as I changed out a bunch of staple deck for me and used new ones instead. The only repeat deck I used was the Celtic Tree Oracle (because to NOT gives me a lot of anxiety). I was nervous at first because breaking routines like this is really hard for me, but I am so glad that I dove into these decks. Even though it was my first time using most of the decks (all are new to me except the tree oracle), they all jived really well, and there were a lot of recurring themes and messages.
The Line Up:
Black Moon Lilith Oracle (instant 10/10 recommendation. The messages are POWERFUL)
One of the biggest messages that came to me from this spread is the need to get back to the trees. I got half a dozen or so messages about being back in nature, but half of those were specifically about connecting with the wisdom of trees, oak in particular. My hope is to do that. I do want to be more intentional about my meditation and grounding practices this year, as I have let them lapse in the last 5 or 6 years. I miss the stability and peace that came with a more proactive meditation practice.
There are also many messages that use the word “rebalance.” I am just leaving my Justice year, and last year was all about trying to find balance within life. I will tell you right now that my all or nothing brain failed miserably at it. As I am coming out of that year and into The Hanged One, I feel as though I am finally beginning to understand a little bit better about balance, and it is starting with using my PTO on the days where the depths of the river sound like home. This year is already asking for be to better balance myself and my routines. I plan on trying my best to honor it. Cleaning my desk and reorganizing before starting this card journey felt like a good start ;)
This is not a deck, but I rolled the number 5 on my Divination Dice, and the number corresponds to Venus. So I get to work with Venus energy this month, and I am so excited. Her energy has been everywhere for me lately. I knew she was coming, and I got her deck ready. I am using The Rose Oracle for daily communication with Venus, and the messages have been so poignant. I just finished communing with Saturn, and his messages through The Herbal Astrology Oracle had my jaw on the floor some mornings.
How do I journal all of this? I see my journal as an extension of the spell being woven within the new moon cycle. I honor the cards by putting down all of the relevant keywords and information, and I find imagery through stickers, my own doodles, washi, and I will print stickers (on transparent sticker paper) for imagery that aren’t within the 100,000 stickers that I have. Through this, I have made my own little vision board, a visual collage to remind me of what I need to focus on, what imagery may be popping up for me over the next 28ish days. I also use markers and pens of different colors so I can easily spot what I am looking for. This is an all day process for me, but it is one that I have found to be worth the time, energy, and resources.
When everything is said and done, these cards go on the altar in front of my desk (first photo). I am in love with my altar this time because I have my holly goddess noggin from Little Stitch Squeak and a real holly leaf to coincide with the Holly card. I have an acorn to go with the Oak card. I have the corresponding crystals for the Earth Alchemy Deck, and I just feel that all of these touches bring a little extra magic to my altar! Truly in awe and sitting in gratitude of all the magic and messages I’ve been allowed to receive.
This is the only photo I have of my goddess messages for this month, forgive the sloppiness. I will do a more in-depth talk about them next time. For now tough, here are the decks I use for my Goddess Messages:
Persephone: Work Your Light Oracle
Artemis: Earthcraft Oracle
Hekate: Crystal Spirits Oracle
The Morrigan: Crow Tarot
What messages have you received for this lunar cycle? How do you plan on enacting them? Do you do any major card pulls like this for new moons or new months? Do you enjoy having imagery from the cards in your journal?
Wishing you well this week! May your life offer what you need in this moment.
With love,
Aventurine ✨
Thanks for the recommendation on the black moon Lilith deck, I didn't know if it was good but I trust your judgement! This moon cycle has me looking at what I need to let go of in all areas of my life. Taking it slow though, thank you for sharing!
