I have had a daily tarot practice since Christmas Day, 2017. Ok, thatโs not quite the truth because there have been blips of time where my mental health or life schedule have thrown everything out of whack, but for many years, I have been doing daily tarot.
Right now, my daily tarot practice involves The Guardian of the Night Tarot. I bought this deck for myself and my Sassy Latte, and it has changed everything for me.
I have always been very aware of animals. Growing up on Disney made me very aware of animals, and I have always felt more drawn to the animal characters than the humans. My dad has called me Meeko since I was 7, and I first fell in love with that little rascally raccoon. Before that, I insisted that I was Figaro the cat from Pinocchio.
I have another animal tarot deck or two, and they are fine, but there is something about this deck that has been life changing. It feels like I am really tapping into the animal guides in this deck. I have been using this deck daily since 12/26/22. I have tried to change the deck a couple of times. This ends in me feeling anxious and like the day canโt possibly end well. At some point, I know I will connect deeply to another deck, but for now my intuition is letting me know that here is where I belong. I have like 20 tarot decks at this point and like 27 oracles. For now, though, the Guardian of the Night Tarot.
Here are a few of my favorite cards in the deck.
The raccoons, OF COURSE! The raccoons as The Magician and Three of Cups connect me back to my inner child and the magic and curiosity she embodies.
The Star was one of my original favorite cards from my first deck. I connect with this Star card because of the deer. The deer is an embodiment of Artemis who is a Goddess I work with each Monday and full moon.
I am absolutely in love with the bat cards because for me, they are a direct link to Persephone and her energy. She is a magnificent energy for both The High Priestess and Justice. I saw these cards for the first time and immediately connected them to her. Persephone is a goddess I work with each quarter moon (waxing and waning energies).
As I sit at my desk around 535-540 each morning, I envision the day of the week, the date, and my anticipated day ahead. I ask for guidance, lessons, messages I need to hear for the day. My deck often throws out a card that is in reference to the conversations Iโve already had that morning. Yes, I know itโs early for me, but my Sassy lives forever away and is already up, awake, and ready for conversation. I have never felt connected to a deck like I do this one. Every day is a new message, and even when I have stalker cards (I see you Hierophant), there is still a new keyword or line from the guidebook that sticks out to me.
I connect these cards to my daily protection ritual when I feel especially called to the animal(s) on the card. I feel every deity that I work with call to me through this deck. Animals are important to my practice, to my heart, to my soul. They connect me to messages that I may otherwise miss. I am so grateful to have connected with this deck and that MJ Cullinane made this deck.
Do you have any decks that you deeply connect with? Do you have animals that you feel connected to? Iโd love to hear about them!
One little announcement:
Sassy Latte and I are hosting a collage challenge in June over on the Sassyverse_Pod IG page. The first prompt is VOICE. You do not have to collage. You can use any medium you want to create. Click here to see more details.
Wishing you well this week! May your life offer what you need in this moment.

I have been interested in this deck, it looks beautiful ๐. I have been very strict about not buying decks this year. I also have been feeling estranged from my tarot practice, but I'm slowly coming around with the Margarete Petersen Tarot. I used to do daily card draws and tarot challenges before. Now, time is scarce and I'm also feeling like my relationship with tarot in my spiritual practice is changing.
