This week I began a new book: Awakening Artemis. It is within my favorite genre which is spiritual memoir combo. I don’t really know why I love these other than learning about people, how they tick, and what things they have learned has always been a top interest of mine. Hello, Scorpio Stellium! I think this interest is part of why I don’t mind when people on the bus start giving their life stories. They are desperate to be heard and validated, and I don’t mind giving them that 5-10 minutes of space to be heard.
Books like this are a way for people to be heard, and this happens to be a topic I am very interested in: herbalism, spirituality, goddess work, and reclamation of self. I am only a couple hours into this audiobook, and I am already inspired to answer some of the questions the author has proposed.
Artemis is a goddess that I have been working with for a couple of years. I could feel something around me, and I wasn’t sure who it was. I didn’t have a pendulum at that time so I pulled from the Jane Austen Divination Deck for quick yes, no questions. When I asked if Artemis was wanting me to work with her, a yes came out. This was on August 6th, 2021, and the number 6 is considered sacred to Artemis, which I did not learn until later.
In terms of finding books about Artemis in modern goddess work, there aren’t a lot that I have found. Most practitioners are speaking of Hekate when it comes to being initiated into goddess work. I was so excited to find Awakening Artemis because I set the intention of working more closely with Artemis this year. My attention often does go to Hekate and Persephone, but I know that Artemis is going to be integral to my endeavors this year. Artemis is for goals. I honor her on the full moon and every Monday.
Artemis, Huntress of the Moon, make my aim true.
Give me goals to seek and the constant determination to achieve them.
Another book that I have been reading and exploring is Goddesses in Everywoman. I am really enjoying the chapter on Artemis because she is written out in a way that I haven’t seen elsewhere. In this book, goddesses are described as archetypes and as energies to tap into when we are trying to reach different goals or get to certain destinations in life.
I have felt the Artemis pull and guidance for more freedom, more independence, and more focus on my passions and goals for the last year or so. I have actually stopped the path that I was supposed to finish. I’m not finishing my certificate, and as of right now (while I’m still employed and have a consistent source of income), I have no regrets. In fact, I only feel relief not paying more money into the scam that is higher education. This is Artemis.
I feel most connected to Artemis around water. I know that she is heavy earth sign energy, and she is often associated with the forest, but she also heals through running water. In the summer of 2022, I walked in the river and opened myself up to her. Two ospreys flew over my head, and I was floating for the rest of the day. That night, Artemis visited me in my dreams, not as a human, but as a voice coming from an animal. I have been trying to be more intentional ever since, but I often fail. So this year, I am trying hard on Mondays to light her candle before work, put on the fragrance I bought for her altar, and to call on Deer as her animal form.
I have been working hard on getting my Ko-Fi up and running, getting digital and physical items listed in the shop, and on building my presence on IG. On Ko-Fi, you can sign up for Full Moon Readings (donations based) and New Moon Readings. You can also shop for journal kits that I have curated.
I am so grateful for how well January went. I made $60 in total, and while I know that’s not enough to support me or anything really, it is the beginning, and we all have to start from somewhere. This is where the determination of Artemis’ guidance and presence comes in. This is where that archetype of the wild child helps push us forward. This is where the lens of gratitude becomes the only lens I look through. I am grateful to each of you for being here.
I want to leave you with a question, and I will be giving my answer to it in my next love letter. In Awakening Artemis, Vanessa Chakour has her clients go out on nature walks and intuitively connect with a plant. They sit there, and they connect for 10-15 minutes. They are then asked, “If your plant was a ballgown, what would it look like?” and other questions like that. They share what they learned, heard, experienced, etc. Then Vanessa Chakour tells them the history, spiritual, and healing properties of that plant.
My question for you is this: What is the first plant you remember connecting with as a child? Look it up. See what the physical and spiritual healing aspects are. Think about your childhood. Did you intuitively go to that plant for a reason? I’d love to hear your answers below.
Wishing you well this week! May your life offer what you need in this moment.
With love,
Aventurine ✨
I have always connected with daisies! I remember spending hours in the fields making daisy chains 😊
I’m just starting Goddesses in Every Woman, it sounds interesting.
