How is 2024 treating us thus far? Here in PDX, it was going ok, and then the polar vortex hit, and it’s been a mess ever since. We’ve had the coldest weather I’ve ever experienced in my 35 years of life in PDX. My apartment is 48 hours without power, and I am beyond grateful for having an alternative place to stay that is safe, warm, and allows me access to food and drinks.
I have a picture of my Nana’s altar in this post because she was one of the most creative people I’ve ever known, and she was never to scared to try something new. She was a sagittarius who truly just bebopped along from interest to interest leaving her mark of creativity and optimism wherever she went. So, in honor of her and the fearlessness and creativity I want to embody, I am adding her to this post.
I started 2023 using The Creativity Journal by
, and I began 2024 this same way. There are some notable differences between the two. You can see those in Dianna’s video here.I am enjoying using it this year. I am also really enjoying sharing it more than I did last year. To be completely transparent, it took me a long time, like 10 months, to get into a better habit and routine with my journal last year. I am happy to be in a better place with it this year. Part of that routine is filming flip-throughs and taking photos to share!
Without further ado, here are the pages I kept out of the flip-through on Instagram and have decided to put here for you all instead!
My favorite page will always be the Communing with the Muse. This is where I take time each month to pull a card from the Mother Mary Oracle. I love this deck for a myriad of reasons, but mainly because the guidance from Mary and the prayers to Her are so beautiful and potent. I used to switch up the decks for the “How to take creative action this month” prompts, but now I use the Mary Magdalene Oracle. At first, I wasn’t sure it would work, but as I reflected, as. I read, as I connected text to life, I understood the messages. I love the guidance I get from this spread each month. It is by far my favorite part of this journal!
In the same vein, here is the Capricorn Season spread I wrote for the Creativity Journal! I will no longer be sharing these out on Instagram for free. You can join the paid subscription here to get them each month. I love using the Modern Witch Tarot for just about any reading. It is unique enough to derive meaning outside of the traditional, but it is also traditional enough to be able to fall back on those more traditional interpretations. I truly love it. If you haven’t had the pleasure of using it, I definitely recommend it. It’s in my top 5 favorite decks! I love, love, love how Dianna formatted these spreads. They’re so pretty! Next month, I think I want to decorate these pages more, but for now, I’m also happy with how clean they look.
One of the changes this year is that this page is at the beginning of the journal rather than included in each month. It is a page that I want to be completely fun and fancy free, but I also know that the more grounded, practical things like cleaning and grounding through my rosary, etc. will help me feel unstuck. So this is my only sort of fabulous list because let’s be real… cleaning bites.
The lunar cycles page is where I hold myself accountable for working with my goddesses. I took this photo before the new moon, and to be honest, I didn’t engage with the new moon as much as I’d hoped due to conferences, sub plans, and general overwhelm. I did however take the time to clean up a bit and light Hekate’s candle and offer some elderberry. I just haven’t documented it yet.
1st and 3rd Quarter Moons: Persephone
New Moon: Hekate
Full Moon: Artemis
Lastly, here is the part of the weeklies where I track what I listen to, watch, read (with my eyes…. ugggggh), and experience. This year started with some waves as shown by the sticker by Rana. (Definitely go check out her sticker shop!) The other side of the weeklies has what you’re curious about, how you’re going to foster creativity, and what you’re thankful for. This first week, I really just slept. I didn’t do much outside of being grateful for PTO and the ability to rest as I needed.
Those were the more hidden parts of my journal, the parts that I wasn’t sure that I wanted the entire IG world to see had something miraculous like a viral reel happened. I love the intentionality that lies within this planner. For the tracker, this month, I am tracking a no spend, and everything I want to spend my money on and can’t get put into a wishlist below (Rana’s strawberry sticker collection is ON the list). One thing that I miss about the 2023 creativity journal was all of the extra space to jot down ideas, brain dump, and add a bunch of washi and stickers. I do love the sleekness and the new formatting of the weeklies!
How are you settling into your new notebooks, planners, and journals this year? How are you DOING starting week 3 of 2024? Let me know if you have
Wishing you well this week! May your life offer what you need in this moment.
With love,
Aventurine ✨
I love, love, LOVE! seeing your journal pages and reading about how the new version is working for you. I also find myself missing the extra space to write more, so I have been pasting extra notes pages on the weekly check-in so I can do some reflecting. Thank you so much for sharing about the journal and for inviting your nana's creative spirit!
